The Committee met virtually, for its last meeting of the year, to adopt two third and fourth quarterly performance and expenditure reports for the Department of Communications and Digital Technologies, Government Communication and Information System (GCIS) and their entities. Oustanding Committee minutes were also considered and adopted.

Opening remarks

The Chairperson welcomed Members of the Portfolio Committee on Communications noting this was the last Committee meeting for the year, but if necessity requires the Committee to convene, there will be sittings. The Chairperson reminded Members of the house rules and acknowledged the passing of former Deputy Minister of International Relations and Cooperation, Mr Ebrahim Ebrahim and Ms Lindiwe Mabuza, Former South African High Commissioner to the United Kingdom

Committee minutes

The Committee considered and adopted the minutes of 2 June, 17 and 18 August, 9, 10, 17, 23 and 30 November 2021.

The Chairperson thanked Members noting this was a challenging year and term with the elections in a short space of time. He thanked Members for their commitment and dedication and asked them to keep this commitment during 2022. There are planned service delivery areas as the licenses and the broadcasting digital migration (BDM) project that must still be finalised.  The Committee will monitor to and contribute to making it happen.
