Meeting Summary

The Committee considered two reports: the Petition Report by Kempton Park residents and Clifton Beach Report. The Reports were adopted without any changes but a suggestion was made that perhaps a recommendation should be made to the Sixth Parliament to consider following up on the Petitions matter.

Meeting report

The Chairperson welcomed everyone present and thanked the Members for their attendance. He stated that the Committee needed to consider and adopt the Reports as they were already deliberately on in previous meetings. Members had the opportunity to submit final comments or inputs or changes.

He proposed the adoption of the agenda and it was adopted.

Consideration of the Petition Report by Kempton Park Residents

The Chairperson led Members through the Report.

Ms J Steenkamp (DA) informed the Committee that she had spoken Mr Mike Waters who informed her that four Members were at a public meeting on Saturday concerning the issues petitioned. At this meeting, residents indicated that their problems have not been fixed yet. She suggested that the Committee can recommend that the Sixth Parliament goes back to the residents and follow up on the issues.

Mr Z Makhubele (ANC) concurred with Ms Steenkamp.

The Chairperson also noted the suggestion and submitted the adoption of the Report.

The report was approved with the amendment that this matter be taken up by the Sixth Parliament.

Consideration of the Clifton Beach Committee Report

The Chairperson led Members through the Report.

No changes were made in the Report as the Committee had deliberated on it in the previous meetings.

The Chairperson submitted the Report for adoption.

The Report was then adopted with no changes.

The Chairperson bade farewell and informed Members that the Committee would send its condolences to the Mthembu family as Mr Jackson Mthembu is a former Chairperson of the Committee.

 The meeting was then adjourned.
