DECLARATION ON FIRE AND FLOODS CONFERENCE: DELIBERATIONS; OUTSTANDING REPORTS ON PUBLIC HEARINGS ON DEPARTMENT BUDGET 2005/6: ADOPTION

DISCUSSIONS ON THE DECLARATION ON THE FIRE AND FLOODS CONFERENCE HELD
ON 12-13 APRIL 2005
The Chairperson reminded Members that when the conference was held a declaration was
adopted by Parliament. She requested approval from Members for the declaration to be debated
in Parliament and that this discussion is forwarded to all the provinces. This would also assist in
the implementation of the Disaster Bill, which is still in the pipeline. Mr Schneemann proposed
that the declaration be reflected in the ATC. Mr Steyn seconded the proposal.

The Committee agreed that the Chairperson would find out about the status of the report, after it was established that the said declaration was in fact reflected in the ATC in 2005.

ADOPTION OF OUTSTANDING REPORTS: PUBLIC HEARINGS ON BUDGET VOTE NO.28:
2005 AND 2006.
The Chairperson allowed Members five minutes to peruse the reports distributed to them. Mr Masango proposed that Members be granted more time to look at the outstanding reports. Mr Schneemann seconded the proposal. The Committee agreed that Members would go through the reports and these would be looked at in the next committee meeting. Mr Steyn requested whether there is a committee report that would be produced on the Budget Vote debate that took place on 24 May 2006, as this is being done by other committees. Mr Schneemann said that the committee could report on the public hearings, including the engagements held with the department on the budget vote.

ADOPTION OF MINUTES
Ms Dambuza proposed the adoption of the minutes of 22 March 2006. Mr Steyn seconded the proposal. Mr Steyn reminded Members about the minutes of the meeting held on 29 March 2006, as reflected in the minutes of 22 March 2006, which must also be adopted in the next committee meeting.

COMMENTS BY THE CHAIRPERSON
The Chairperson suggested that a report on the public hearings on the Budget Vote be adopted in the next meeting and this should include the engagements with the department.

The next meeting was scheduled for Wednesday, 7 June 2006.
