Meeting Summary

The Committee had met the previous week when in principle it had agreed with the changes that the Department had made to the National Land Transport Bill, in line with suggestions by the provinces. The C and D versions of the National Land Transport Bill, incorporating those changes, were now tabled. The Department and the State Law Advisers indicated that they were happy that this version did reflect all amendments. Members agreed to adopt the Bill.

National Land Transport Bill (the Bill): Deliberations and adoption
The Chairperson placed versions C and D of the National Land Transport Bill before the Committee for consideration, noting that the D version now incorporated all the changes made as a result of the submissions from the provinces, as well as the  amendments that had been agreed upon by the Committee. He and asked whether there were any issues to be raised.

Mr Jits Patel, Acting Chief Director: Integrated Transport Planning, Department of Transport, and Mr Madoda Titus, Senior State Law Adviser, Office of the Chief State Law Adviser, indicated that they were happy with this Bill.

Members indicated that they had no questions or problems.

Mr V Windvoel (ANC, Mpumalanga) did however ask that in the future legislation should be forwarded to the Committee well in advance for consideration. It would allow members the opportunity and time to apply their minds properly.

Members adopted the C and D versions of the Bill.
