26 OCTOBER 2001
DEMOBILISATION AMENDMENT BILL AND TERMINATION OF INTEGRATION INTAKE BILL: VOTING

Chairperson:
Mr AD Mokoena

Documents handed out:
Demobilisation Amendment Bill [B5B-2001]
Termination of Integration Intake Bill [B6B-2001]

SUMMARY
The Committee passed the Demobilisation Amendment Bill and the Termination of Integration Intake Bill. The Termination of Integration Intake Bill will terminate the intake members of non-statutory forces into the South African National Defence Force. The Demobilisation Bill will assist in further regulating the submission of an application for a demobilisation gratuity

MINUTES
After previous briefings and lengthy discussions of the Bills the Chairperson deemed it fit and proper for the Committee to accept the two Bills.

Termination of Integration Bill
The Committee was of the view that the Bill is desirable to provide for the termination of the intake of members of non-statutory forces into the South African National Defence Force (SANDF). This would be done for integration purposes to provide for the integration of members of the said forces who are likely to be granted amnesty and to provide for matters connected therewith.

The motion of desirability was accepted and the Committee passed the Bill without amendments. The Chairperson signed the Committee report on the Bill.

Demobilisation Amendment Bill
The Committee thought the legislation desirable to amend the Demobilisation Act, 99 of 1996. In particular to amend a definition further regulating the submission of an application for a demobilisation gratuity. The Chairperson acknowledged that Members might have discovered other things that they would have liked to include in the Bill. He asked for further comments from other caucuses and study groups from different parties.
Mr Theron (DP) moved that the Committee should accept the Bill and was seconded by Mr C Nkuna (ANC). The Bill was passed without amendments and the Committee report was signed.

The Bills will be debated in the National Council of Provinces on 8 November.

The meeting was adjourned
