Committee Minutes & First Term Programme for the Select Committee on Social Services

Meeting report

The Chairperson welcomed everybody and indicated that Ms M Makgate (ANC, North West) would be absent from the meeting today.

Thereafter, she mentioned that consideration of the draft report on the oversight visit to the Eastern Cape would not be deferred. The Committee would focus on outstanding minutes in this meeting.

Ms D Rantho (ANC, Eastern Cape) stressed the importance of the Eastern Cape and suggested that consideration be given to having a Strategic Planning Workshop in the Second Term.

The Chairperson agreed that that the Strategic Planning Workshop should be considered for the Second Term.

Outstanding Committee Minutes

Committee Minutes dated 24 October 2012

The Chairperson tabled the minutes for consideration and invited input from Members.

Mr M De Villiers (DA, Western Cape) referred to page 3 and sought clarity on whether the Further Education and Training Colleges Amendment Bill had been classified as a section 75 or section 76 bill.

Ms D Rantho (ANC, Eastern Cape) confirmed that it had been tabled as a section 76 Bill the previous day.

The Committee approved the Bill with no changes.

The Chairperson tabled the minutes for consideration and invited input from Members.

Mr De Villiers pointed out that he came from the Western Cape and not from the Northern Cape as indicated on page 1 of the document.

Members made no further comments and the Committee approved the minutes with that minor change.

The Chairperson tabled the minutes for consideration and invited input from Members.

Members pointed out spelling and grammatical errors on pages 1, 2 and 6.

The adopted the minutes with minor amendments.

The Chairperson tabled the minutes for consideration and invited input from Members.

Select Committee on Social Services

First Committee Programme
The Chairperson described the Committee’s planned activities for the first term. He highlighted the following:

● 26 February 2013- Consideration of the Committee’s 1^st term Programme and Adoption of Committee Minutes as well as Annual Report Briefing: Department of Home Affairs.

● 5 March 2013- Briefing by the Department of Health on Child Mortality in South Africa.

● 11-15 March 2013- Committee Oversight visit to Mpumalanga.

●19 March 2013- Briefing by the Department of Health focusing on the audit of public health facilities (including clinics, community health centers and district, regional, specialised and tertiary hospitals) in all 9 provinces.

The Committee adopted the programme unamended.
