The Chairperson welcomed everyone present and allowed for brief introductions.

Shortlisting of candidates for the position of the Western Cape Commissioner for Children

 In shortlisting the candidates, the Committee scored each candidate on the following key performance areas: monitoring, investigation, reporting, lobbying, research, education and advise. The Committee agreed that the threshold would be 75 points and candidates who scored above 75 points would be shortlisted and invited for interviews.

The following candidates were shortlisted:

4. Ms Africa, Lizelle

5. Ms Bower, Carol

6. Ms McKellar, Gabriela

7. Ms Van der Heyden, Joy

8. Prof Muntingh, Lukas

9. Ms Olivier, Christelle Alida

10. Ms Plaaitjies, Lydia

11. Ms Albertyn, Samantha Zinzy

12. Ms Lestrade, Ingrid Elizabeth

13. Dr Alexander, Naqita

14. Ms Mohamed, Zakira

15. Adv Gaum, Mirinda

The Committee RESOLVED that:

a) the shortlisted candidates would be invited for interviews which would be scheduled from 18 – 20 February 2020

b) the Committee should write to all the unsuccessful candidates and thank them for showing interest in the position of the Western Cape Commissioner for Children

c) each candidate be requested to provide the Committee with an ID-sized picture, short biography and motivation why they think they are suitable for the position of Children Commissioner. This information would be published on the WCPP website and would be accessible to the public

d) the Chairperson of the Committee would issue a media statement on progress made by the Committee thus far on the appointment of the Western Cape Commissioner for Children

e) shortlisted candidates with objections will also be asked questions during the interview on the objections received

the meeting was adjourned.
