Opening remarks
Co-Chairperson Gungubele welcomed everyone present and submitted the agenda for adoption. He told Members that the Committees had two days to conduct the short-listing.

He said that the Committee had the responsibility to appoint 13 board members and the most important thing was to ensure that all key requirements would be met by the candidates. The Committee would have to deal with the gender matter, even if women were more than 50%; demographics must be taken into consideration; and qualifications would also be important.

The Committee agreed that it would shortlist 26 candidates out of the CVs that were received.

Members were then given an opportunity to submit their preferred candidates.

Co-Chairperson Gungubele proposed for short recess to request the staff to check the common names and whether they all qualified.

Co-Chairperson Gungubele proposed that the Committee did not need to conclude this shortlisting today in order to ensure a thorough and rigorous process. He asked whether there were any opposition on the names that were submitted by Members.

Members were in concurrence on the list of the names to be considered for shortlisting in the next meeting.

Co-Chairperson Gungubele suggested that the compiled list be circulated to the Members for further discussion in their political party caucuses. The Committee will then commence with the second round of shortlisting from the above list.

Members agreed to the proposal.

Co-Chairperson Gungubele said that when Members were deliberating, they should not compromise gender balance, demographics, qualifications, experience and age.
