PC Social Development: Committee's First Term Programme

Meeting report

The Chairperson noted the purpose of the meeting was to consider and adopt its draft first term programme and outstanding minutes.

The First Term Committee Programme for 2014
The Chairperson went through the programme page by page and briefly explained the Committee’s planned activities for the term which included:  

On Wednesday 5 February 2014 the Committee would be briefed by the Medical Research Council on its Report titled: Every Eight Hour: Intimate Femicide in South Africa 10 years later. There would also be deliberations and adoption of the Draft Committee Report on an Oversight Visit to Gauteng.

On Wednesday 12 February 2014, adoption of the Committee Report on the Annual Report of the South African Social Security Agency (SASSA) for 2012/13 financial year and the adoption of the Committee Report on the Annual Report of the National Development Agency for 2012/13 financial year.

On Thursday, 13 February 2014, it would be the State of the Nation Address (SONA) by President Jacob Zuma in Parliament.

On Tuesday, 18 February 2014, the Committee would be briefed by the Department of Social Development on its Quarterly Financial and Performance Report for 2013/14 financial year (April – June 2013 and July – September 2013).

On Tuesday, 25 February 2014, the Committee would be briefed by the Department of Social Development on issues emanating from the State of the Nation Address (SONA).

And on Tuesday, 4 March 2014, the Committee would be briefed by the Department of Social Development on issues raised in the Older Person’s Petition – reporting on the interventions developed to address the issues and outcome of its consultation process with other departments. There would also be the adoption of outstanding minutes.

The Chairperson proposed the Committee started their meeting early, 08h30 – 10h30, on12 February 2014 due to the SONA on 13 February 2014. This would give Members enough time to prepare for the event.
 
Members adopted the programme.

Ms M Mafolo (ANC) moved for adoption and Ms N Gcume (COPE) seconded the motion and the minutes were adopted with no amendments.

The Chairperson went through the minutes page by page.

Ms Gcume moved for adoption and Ms E Khumalo (ANC) seconded the motion. The minutes were adopted without amendments.

The meeting was adjourned.
