Hon Speaker, I move without notice:
That the House -
1) notes that the United Nations International Day for the Abolition of Slavery is annually observed on 2 December to remind people that modern slavery works against human rights;
2) further notes that the day also encourages people to put meaning to the words of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights that "no one shall be held in slavery or servitude" through their actions;
3) acknowledges that the Portfolio Committee on Justice and Constitutional Development of this House is close to finalising the Prevention and Combating of Trafficking of Persons Bill, having spent more than a hundred hours of work on the Bill;
4) believes that bonded labour, forced labour, child labour and trafficking people constitute modern forms of slavery;
5) further believes that these types of slavery are global problems and go against Article Four of the Universal Declaration of Human Rights; and
6) calls on all South Africans to work together in eradicating all forms of slavery in modern society.
Agreed to.
