Election of Committee Chairperson

The Committee Secretary indicated that in terms of the rules of the Western Cape Provincial Parliament, following the resignation of the previous Committee Chairperson from the legislature, a new Committee Chairperson would need to be nominated and elected from Committee Members. She called for nominations. 

Mr G Bosman (DA) nominated Mr C Poole (DA)

Mr C Fry (DA) seconded the nomination. 

There were no further nominations. 

Mr Poole was declared the elected Chairperson of the Standing Committee on Social Development. 

The Chairperson thanked Members for putting their trust in him as Chairperson. The Department works with the social ills of communities and he hoped and believed that as Chairperson, the Committee would work well together in the future and make a difference where it is needed. While good things were done in the past, there was still a lot more to do.

The Committee then adopted its minutes for the current meeting. The new Chairperson announcement would be made in the ATC.
