Mr B Mnyandu (DA) noted the demarcation between the production and description of knowledge. He thought they should talk about ‘knowledge creation’ rather than ‘knowledge production’. Professor de la Rey agreed that ‘knowledge creation’ would be a more suitable term. Knowledge description occurred more in the social sciences.
Mr R Ainslie (ANC) was concerned about unemployed graduates. Mr B Mnyandu (DA) said people with PhD degrees had very high expectations. This should be discussed in the context of South Africa’s high unemployment rate.
Mr B Mnyandu (DA) asked if employee figures included the executive. Dr Fourie said they had eight top managers: four whites, four blacks and four females. Senior management was made up of 16 whites, and eight blacks, of which six were female.
