Mr Swart was born in 1941 in Swellendam and completed most of his school career in the Northern Cape but matriculated in the then Orange Free State in 1958. He graduated with a BA degree majoring in Business Economics and Psychology from the University of Stellenbosch in 1965. Since graduating from university he was employed in the corporate sector and became the company director of Bolton Footwear and in later years started his own business. He became a full-time politician after he got elected as the Executive Mayor of George in 2000. Since then Marius has held several positions in the DA, including Chairperson of the Eastern Region of the Western Cape and member of the Provincial Executive Committee in the Western Cape. He is currently the serving as the DA’s Spokesperson on the Appropriations Committee and also a member of the Provincial Council of the Western Cape, a member of the Federal Council and Federal Executive Committee of the DA and Deputy Chairperson of the party.
