Mr Khumalo (ANC) commented that Telkom was considered to be dominant in the telecommunication sector. He enquired how Mr Tom suggested that the market be opened to competition. He asked Mr Tom’s view on foreign ownership and whether he believed the market should be kept as it was.
Mr Khumalo (ANC) wanted a breakdown of service delivery achievements. He asked whether other provinces were implementing Batho Pele principles. He asked what was being done about skills development where consultants were being used, and why skilled staff were not retained in the Department.
Mr M Khumalo (ANC) asserted that Robben Island had become a commercial enterprise. Travelling to the island by ferry cost R150 and the site was thus not accessible to the general public. Crafts needed to be regulated.
