Mr Rawula served in the national leadership of the EFF as the Central Command Team Member responsible for Labour and Trade Union Relations. He has previously been involved with the National Union of Metalworkers of South Africa (NUMSA) as the Eastern Cape Labour Coordinator 2003 - 2006. He also worked as Human Resource and Capacity Building Advisor in 2014 and 2015. He holds a Bachelor Degree in Public Administration from NMMU, a Post Graduate Diploma in Labour Law from the University of Johannesburg and an Honours Degree in Public Administration from the University of South Africa.
He resigned as an EFF member on 10 April 2019 and found a new home in Numsa's Socialist Revolutionary Workers Party (SRWP) about a week later.
