I am determined to prioritise the drafting of the financial model for the SABC to ensure that it becomes sustainable, able to pay its creditors and to deliver on its core function of providing accessible, diverse, and impartial news, entertainment, and educational content to the public through television, radio, and digital platforms.
Whilst awaiting the completion of the legislative amendments, including the development of the new funding model, which is a critical priority, the Department has applied for funding to cater for the unfunded mandate in the interim.
In addition, the SABC has developed a long-term (5-year) strategy, aimed at plotting a way forward to financial stability and sustainability, including the growth of its revenue base.
