The Department works within the available budget and for the 2024-2029 MTDP has planned to focus on increased access to adequate housing through various programmes that include:
- Upgrade 4075 informal settlements by completing Phases 1, 2 & 3 of the National Housing Code (provision of security of tenure, engineering infrastructure, basic services and activating community-based livelihood strategies)
- Development of 237 000 housing units through various programmes for households earning less than R3500 per annum
- Complete 314 000 serviced sites through various programmes
- Disburse 140 000 subsidies and loans through various affordable housing interventions to households in the gap market (households earning more that R3500 / month)
- Develop 15 000 Social Rental Housing units completed in restructuring zones
