Hon Speaker, comrades and hon members, the weakness of section 102 is that it does not stipulate the basis on which a motion of no confidence can be passed. This can very well lead to a situation where such motions are no more than just political grandstanding. It is the contention of the APC that a motion of no confidence against a head of state must be a serious matter in the eyes of the nation.
Frivolous motions like this one are politically denigrating. [Applause.] They are meant to embarrass. They are merely part of a game. [Interjections.] They do not connect with the fundamental needs of the people.
Let us take ourselves seriously. The responsibility of elected representatives is to address the grievances of the people. [Interjections.] The APC refuses to chase after false flags. [Interjections.]
