Having considered the Black Authorities Act Repeal Bill [B 9 - 2010], the Portfolio Committee on Rural Development and Land Reform welcomed the repeal of the Black Authorities Act, 1951. In addition, submissions from interested members of the public and other organizations also showed widespread support for the repeal of the Black Authorities Act. The repeal of the Black Authorities Act was also seen as one of the significant final steps in removing traces of parliamentary sovereignty and indirect rule from democracy. However, the committee remained concerned with the legacy of the Black Authorities Act, 1951.
