Dear Portfolio Committee on Police,

I would like to bring to your attention that the police in Benoni are closing cases without properly investigating. I was in a smash and grab last week in Benoni and filed a case at the Benoni police station. The sergeant called me the next morning to ask me if I knew the person, clearly not an intelligent question as I do not know these people who smash and grab at traffic lights. He asked me if I could identify the person and I said Yes. He however advised me that he will have to temporarily close the case and If I see the person again, I can then advise them. I gave him the name of the intersection I was mugged at and advised him that I went to the area again the next day and did some investigation and I provided him with more information and asked if the police could patrol the area.He advised that the people at that particular house I was referring to do not steal. How many more women have to be victims of smash and grab before the police can take action. These police are lazy and are even closing cases of murder. Have they not taken an oath to protect citizens of the country. I am disgusted with their attitude and nonchalant behavior. I would now like to escalate this.
