Dear Portfolio Committee on Higher Education, Science and Technology,
Iam here writing on what is happening on Westcol Tvet College, and we urge an urgent visit by the paliament committee. The principal has hire new 87 Lecturers employees under the college budget withiout council approval. In a staff room some lecturers stand on their feet in a staffroom cause there was no even infrastructure expandment when that huge decision was taken. Now he says the college is under budget, when asked he says he can remove new 87 employees as damage has already been done and he is scared they will take him to court. Where as previous employess we covering afternoon part time work which costs less than hiring someone full time. In one of his memo he said he is creating employment. If one labor cost R25000 a month x by 87 it costs more than when a full time labor paid by the department of higher education on persal costs less when utilised under internal budget college. When asked for maitenance of workshop machanical engineering NCV and marketing new enrolments he says there is no budget but there was budget when he hired 87 full time employees of the internal college budget. Now he want to reduce number of enrolments of students that is denying young people access to education, rather expand the infrastructure he resorts to decrease in enrolment, and he destroys some NCV programs that are needed in scarce skills sector. Lastly there is no SRC structures established, no Councel established. No proper consultation of staff when taking decision in his strategic plans are enforced by force.
