Short courses and the NQF

Dear Portfolio Committee on Higher Education, Science and Technology,
Thank you for this opportunity to comment. I have just read the minutes of this meeting regarding the University of Limpopo and the Services SETA with interest.

I make this comment related to the report statement:
"A Department Official said that the DHET has asked for a report on this matter. Short courses do not come at the NQF level but the discussion was the recognition of this qualification. A short course is not a qualification and you cannot represent something at an NQF level that is not at an NQF level."

I am not sure whether this is just a matter in inaccurate wording, however, the statement does not appear to be correct. Short courses may be registered on the National Qualifications Framework (NQF) as part qualifications, and they may be allocated at an NQF level.
