Dear Portfolio Committee on Police, thank you for your attention yesterday to our concerns. As Grabouw CPF PRO, I feel that the problem of inadequate staff levels was not sufficiently emphasised when our Chair summed up her 16 or so points. Perhaps out-of-date census figures are being used, but our current population was recently calculated by Brenthurst Foundation at 112 000, and it is growing steadily. Grabouw SAPS has 102 members, but of these, there are only 63 members including Shift, Sector Commanders and Crime Prevention Unit. Station Commander reports seven have left the station recently and not replaced. This equates to about one Police member in blue for 1800 members of the population. When we raise this question we are told it is the subject of a Court Case. Please give this matter urgent attention. Regards, Andy Selfe, Grabouw CPF PRO.
