Dear Portfolio Committee on Human Settlements, Water, and Sanitation,

I am Viwe Sigenu, I fall in the so-called Missing Middle. We do not qualify for government housing because the threshold is R3500 and we also do not qualify for a bond. There is also (FLISP) which have its criteria from R3500 - R22000 and have rejected many people because you also have to apply for a bond at the bank at most people do not qualify. That means we are condemned to renting forever. For example, if the Department of Human Settlements, Water, and Sanitation can develop a portion of land and sell stands to people who earn R3500- R22000. I believe people can build their dream homes. For example, I am on a three-year contract I would make sure I build my dream home before that three-year contract ends. Instead of renting and when my contract ends I have nothing. This is a norm for many countries, including our neighboring country Zimbabwe.
