Dear Portfolio Committee on Arts and Culture, I am an early retired creative arts educator and holding an arts administration certificate. My early retirement was necessitated by lack of emphasis on especially arts at school level. I am passionate about art immensely. For the past twenty years as a visual arts educator , my practice as an artist has suffered nearly to extinction. Right now as a full time practising artist life is still as hard , what about the learners who must keep up with educators who know next to nothing about art , who can't even inspire gifted learners. I had just started my application for funding for my project through the NAC. Unfortunately my target groups were school learners , unemployed and elderly citizens. Right now I have applied to vulnerable artists through artist proof still waiting for the outcome , now my greatest worry is how many artists out there who are not in touch with what is going on. I work in an open space and my audience is multiplying exponentially , like the corona virus itself. My plea to the committee is , please come to the very disadvantaged communities use people like us , we are there , flattern the pyramids of bereoucracy , remember out of all artforms visual art need not only to be done it needs to be seen done!
