Dear Portfolio Committee on Defence and Military Veterans,

The Department of DMV has started with stakeholder engagement on honouring and memorialisation of many military veterans who fell in the course of the liberation struggle and will facilitate erection of memorial walls in commemoration of all those who sacrificed their lives for the country’s freedom. The Department has decided to prioritise the upgrade and maintenance of all graves of ex combatants that are inside and outside the country’s borders

Here we have a military veteran with the name of Andrew Pieterse who addressed the injustices of Ex SACC & current serving members to integrate into the SANDF under the Khoisan Nation Self Defence Unit of South Africa.

Military Veteran Andrew Pieterse Ex SACC did not enjoy the benefit of being a military veterans on South African soil.

The challenges faced by Ex SACC military veterans call for bold and decisive steps to place Ex SACC military veterans’ needs at the centre of the country’s economy on a qualitatively different path that will create sustainable economic opportunities for Ex SACC military veterans and their dependants and not only those members of the 7 former forces.

We as the Khoisan Nation Self Defence Unit of South Africa hope that DMV will also honouring and memorializing our Khoisan/South African Cape Corps struggle stalwarts who are also heroes and heroines of the colonialism & the struggle of recognition of Khoisan people.

The Khoisan Nation Self Defence Unit of South Africa is the only recognise Unit addressing the integration of Ex SACC & current serving members to form part of the new SANDF in the form of integration. We are pleased to know that the PCDMV is about to engage with DOD to integrate EX SACC & Current serving members into the new SANDF after the Khoisan Nation Self Defence Unit submitted a correct justified refine CPR of Ex SACC & current serving members on 20 August 2020.

It is unfortunate, that not all Ex SACC & current serving members will integrate due to the legalisation of the justified refine CPR submitted CERTIFIED PERSONNEL REGISTER (CPR) THE SUMISSION OF PERSONNEL REGISTERS TO BE

PROVIDED IN TERMS OF SECTION 16 (3) (B) OF THE TRANSISTIONAL EXECUTIVE COUNCIL ACT 1993 INTERIM CONSTITUTION AND SECTION 3 OF ANNEXURE D OF SCHEDULE 6 OF THE 1996 CONSTITUTION
This integration will also give the opportunity to those members of the 7 former forces who did not integrate, to integrate with Ex SACC & current serving members into the new SANDF.

We also know that Department of Military & Veterans pledge to manage and administer the affairs of Military Veterans with dignity and compassion and to ensure that the unique needs of all Military Veterans are provided for, including Ex SACC members. This will be achieved through overall coordination and facilitation of the activities of Government and that of the private sector to ensure the provision of coherent assistance to all Military Veterans and not only those members of the 7 former forces.

We are also pleased to know that Department of Military Veterans are currently facing out skills development programmes for Ex SACC military Veterans and their dependants within the Khoisan/coloured communities in the Western Cape starting from 09 November 2020.

Recognising the role Ex SACC Military Veterans played in the democratisation & colonialism of South Africa ties into the National Development Plan’s aspirations to realise a developmental, capable and ethical state that treats citizens with dignity. As such, acknowledging Ex SACC military veterans for their contributions can deepen social cohesion and national unity while redressing the inequities of the past.

Military veteran Andrew Pieterse in the current democratic South Africa could not experience the freedom of an Ex SACC military veteran being a recognise Khoisan and the Commander & Chief of the Khoisan Nation Self Defence Unit who will be leading Ex SACC & current serving members to integrate into the new SANDF as the 8th non statutory force.

He was also part of the National Office Bearers of the Khoisan Nation Self Defence Unit of South Africa who drafted the draft Khoisan soldier’s integration bill submitted to the Speaker of the National Assembly and the Portfolio Committee on Defence & Military Veterans.
