Dear Portfolio Committee on Public Works and Infrastructure, I am a Resident at Atteridgeville west Ext7 in the west of Pretoria.
I stay behind a School called Edward Phatudi Comprehensive School.
There is a Storm.Water Canal running through the area where we leave.there is a bush growing also in that Canal and behind the School yard.a gang of school boys hide in that Bush every morning to smoke.and that space has become a place for stolen goods to be stored or hidden there.the Storm water Canal is filthy ,stinking and damaged a bush is also growing inside this canal.
We once drew a petition asking the municipality to take care of this area.it was.only cleaned after the hearing of the petition. And we stated clearly that it needs Continuous maintenance and to be Revamped.
We also requested that people who are illegally dumping waste in that Canal be fined, or prosecuted. all that has fallen on deaf ears..
Since the New Councillor was Elected in 2016 there has been no attempt to clean that canal.there is faeces waste from the Squatter camp that gets stuck in this canal where it is an open channell.the people at the Squatter camp have built flushing toilets and connected them to the underground storm water pipes that cross the Squatter camp to the Open Channel storm water Canal.
We came up with an idea to fight illegal waste disposal the Mayor of Tshwane Solly Msimanga promised to meet with us he never attended to us since his promise.the Local ward Councillor Joyce Ngobeni we showed her the document she didn't even attempt to deliberate on it and she only told us she will call us.since then she never contacted us.
We request your intervention because our health is at risk we inhale an unhealthy air which is full of germs and we dnt know what sickness we will develop living on such an Unhealthy and filthy Environment.
