Chairperson, on a point of order: The member at the podium has said that hon Kohler-Barnard deliberately misled the House. That is unparliamentary. [Interjections.] It is unparliamentary.
Order, hon member. I will check that one. Proceed.
Hon House Chair. What are the facts of this matter? The IPID Act says that you may extend it. It does not say that you must extend it. The contract is explicit; it ends on 28 February. There is no provision for an extension. It is not true that the Minister wrote to McBride. McBride wrote to the Minister in September. The Minister did not respond. He wrote again in November. The Minister then responded. In his letter to the Minister, he was telling the Minister: "I know that you are not going to extend my contract, so go and advertise it, so that IPID does not suffer." That is what he said.
