Hon Deputy Chairperson, I move without notice:
That the Council -
1) notes and congratulates the Western Cape on increasing the matric pass rate from 75,7% in 2009 to 81,5% in 2018;
2) further notes that the Maths pass rate increased from 64,7% in 2009 to 67% in 2018, while the Science pass rate increased from 52% in 2009 to 79,% in 2018;
3) also notes that the retention rate from Grade 10 to 12 in the province is the highest in the country at around 63% for the 2018 matric... [Interjections.]
Order hon member. Can we give the member the necessary hearing.
... also notes that the retention rate from Grade 10 to 12 in the province is the highest in the country at around 63% for the 2018 matric result, no other province got above 50% in their retention rate which is shocking. I hope my province can learn from that. Thank you.
I so move.
Is there any objection to the motion? In light of the objection the motion shall not be proceeded with. It would then remain as a notice. Thank you very much hon members we have exceeded our time on motions. I will therefore call on the secretary to read the first order.
Chairperson, I thought you are giving Mpumalanga a chance.
But Mpumalanga hasn't had a chance.
No, you thought wrongly.
But Chairperson, Mpumalanga hasn't had an opportunity.
No, order hon members. We must at all times try to strike a balance between what we hear and what we think. I made mention of the time factor and I called on the secretary to read the first order of the day.
