Mr Hunsinger is an MP in the National Assembly for the Democratic Alliance. He is the Political Leader of the DA in the Bergrivier Constituency of the Western Cape and has been serving in various capacities and structures. He actively participates in branch projects and programs in the Swartland Region, where he resides, and serves as Executive Member of that Constituency. Prior to his current role in Bergrivier, he gained experience as Political Head of the Matzikama and Philippi Constituencies in the West Coast and Metro Regions respectively.
Mr Hunsinger graduated with a Bachelor’s Degree in Social Science: University Stellenbosch and obtained several Post-Graduate qualifications in Management & Financial Planning. He has working experience as an entrepreneur in the Retail and Financial Services Industry and was nominated as SA Best Practice Top 10 Finalist in 2009 and was awarded the Celestis Best Practice Achievement Award of Western Province in the same year.
In politics, Mr Hunsinger has previously served as a Ward Councillor in Swartland, as MMC for Finance & Economic Development, Portfolio Chairperson for Finance at the Swartland Municipality, a Member of the Provincial Executive Council with SALGA.
In terms of civic contribution, in 2006, Mr Hunsinger was honoured with the International Blue Heart Award in Berlin, Germany, for his contribution towards promoting various international youth partnerships between South Africa and Germany since 1997 - and for the establishment of the annual International Sondeza AFRIyouth Camp in Ganzekraal, South Africa, in 2004. He was the 14th international and first African recipient of this prestigious prize. In 2016, Mr Hunsinger received honorary life membership of USAPHO, a registered non-profit community organization, responsible for youth development and projects, one of which includes a partnership cooperation with the University College Arteveldehogeschool, in association with the University of Ghent (Belgium). Since 2016, he is an elected executive Board member of The Character Company, which seeks to raise boys to be good men and nominated Director of Governance with SASH - The SA Society of Hope, since 2017.
