Ms September served as Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Higher Education and Training in the Fifth Parliament. She previously served as Minister of Human Settlements. She first became a Member of Parliament in 1999 and served in various Portfolio Committees including Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Water Affairs & Forestry. She also served as Chief Whip in the National Assembly in 2004. She obtained a Master's degree in Economics from Warwick University. The former trade unionist worked at the Rex TrueForm factory for longer than 20 years.
