About Zamani Saul

Dr Zamani Saul is the 5th and current Premier of the Northern Cape and a Member of the Northern Cape Provincial Legislature. He has also been serving as the Provincial Chairperson of the African National Congress since his election on 12 May 2017.

Dr Zamani Saul got involved in political activism at the tender age of 14 with Petrusville Youth Congress and later with Petrusville Civic Movement. As COSAS leader in the late 1980's and early 1990's he represented COSAS in the National Education Coordinating Committee (NECC).

In 1992 he was trained and employed as a para-legal by Pretrusville Advice Centre specialising in the protection of farm workers against illegal farm evictions. During the same period he was elected as the first branch secretary in Petrusville after the unbanning.

He served in the SACP Provincial Ideology Committee from 1994 - 1995 and simultaneously served as the chairperson of the UWC SACP branch. He served in the Pixley ka Seme REC and the Regional Working Committee. He was elected head of political education. In 2004 he was elected as the ANC Deputy Provincial Secretary and in 2008 the ANC Provincial Secretary. He has cumulatively served as a PEC member for an uninterrupted period of 21 years.
