The Department noticed the need to address certain gaps that were identified during the implementation of the programme, hence the temporary suspension.

No statutory service provider has been appointed in terms of section 3 (1A)(b)(ii) of the Agricultural Product Standards Act 119 of 1990, however, assignees have been designated by the Minister in terms of section 2 (3)(a) of the said Act as far back as 1991 until recently in 2016.
