Ms Thompson served as Deputy Minister of Environmental Affairs (2014 - 2019). She was born 3 February 1954. She has been a Member of Parliament since 1995 and was Chairperson of the Portfolio Committee on Women, Children and People with Disabilities. She served various Portfolio Committees including Public Works, Land and Agriculture and the Joint Monitoring Committee on the Improvement of the Quality of Life and Status of Women. During her political career she has served in various positions such as a Regional Secretary of the ANC Women League (ANCWL) in KZN. She obtained a Certificate in Leadership Communication and a Certificate in Government and Business Policy from Rhodes University. Source: (info.gov.za)
