Previously, he served in the Gauteng Provincial Legislature between 1998 and 2014, where he held the positions of Finance Portfolio Committee Chairperson as well as Majority Whip and Deputy Chief Whip. Between 2014 and 2018, he served as the ANC Gauteng Provincial Secretary in Johannesburg (2014-2018).
