Hon Deputy Speaker, I move without notice:
That the House - 1) notes that 14 to 20 November 2011 is African Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Week;
2) further notes that the concept of an African ICT Week was initiated at the World Summit of the Information Society in Tunis in November 2005, which identified ICT as a way to promote sustainable development and cooperation within countries, regions and internationally;
3) acknowledges that the theme for this year is: "ICT: Tool for youth empowerment for sustainable development";
4) believes that African ICT Week offers a chance to asses the impact of ICT and peoples' accessibility; and
5) further believes that globally Africa is seen as the next growth frontier and that to capitalise on this the continent needs to improve its telecommunications infrastructure while making it more affordable to use.
Agreed to.
