[Ms B N DAMBUZA (ANC): Deputy Speaker, the Minister of Human Settlements Mr Tokyo Sexwale and his deputy, Madam Zo Kota-Fredericks, visited the Eastern Cape province last week. They visited the areas of Sweet Waters, Reeston and Duncan Village. The main aim of the visit was to inspect the condition of RDP houses in this province and also to engage local communities in those areas. The Minister said his department will spend an amount of R300 non-breaking space million to upgrade those houses that are in a poor condition and already have occupants. The reason the Minister made this announcement was because the condition of these RDP houses is appalling. The Minister also made it clear that government will take drastic measures against private contractors that did not complete their task of building houses in those areas.
The ANC-led government, working hand in hand with the people, commits itself to improving people's lives where they are. Thank you. [Applause.]]
