Hon Speaker, our education system is under siege and is being destroyed from within by the cancer of fraudulent teachers who are currently walking the corridors of schools and teaching our children in this country. Hundreds of teachers in KwaZulu-Natal alone have been found to have fraudulently misrepresented their teaching qualifications to the department of education. This also raises very serious questions as to the scrutiny carried out by the department in the employment of such teaching staff.
In light of these controversies, the IFP urges the Department of Basic Education and the Department of Higher Education and Training to conduct a national audit of both their screening processes of prospective new teachers, and their current national teaching staff complement in order to ensure that the best possible teachers are available to assist our learners with their studies. I thank you.
