Mr Speaker, I move without notice:
That the House -
1) notes that in 2002 the United Nations General Assembly officially declared September 21 as the permanent date for the International Day of Peace ("Peace Day") and thereby the UN devoted itself to worldwide peace and encouraged all of mankind to work in co- operation for this goal;
2) further notes that International Day of Peace is also a Day of Ceasefire - personal or political;
3) recognises that the International Day of Peace provides an opportunity for individuals, organisations and nations to create practical acts of peace on a shared date; and
4) urges all South Africans to take this opportunity to promote peace in our communities and society at large.
Agreed to.
