Voorsitter, ek stel sonder kennisgewing voor:
Dat die Raad -
1) kennis neem -
a) van die optrede van polisie- en verkeersbeamptes wat hul pligte nougeset uitvoer teenoor mense wat die padrels van Suid-Afrika oortree en dit ondersteun en verwelkom;
b) dat die optrede van adjunkoffisier Jannie Odendaal en sy kollega om die voertuig waarin me Winnie Madikizela-Mandela en haar lyfwag teen 'n ho spoed gereis van die pad te trek, bloot die uitvoering van hul plig was;
c) dat die onaanvaarbare optrede van me Madikizela-Mandela tydens hierdie voorval verwerplik is en van 'n gebrek aan respek vir die gereg spreek;
d) dat die skorsing van adjunkoffisier Odendaal getuig van politieke voortrekkery in die staatsdiens in die guns van ANC- bekendes;
(Translation of Afrikaans draft resolution follows.)
[Mr M J R DE VILLIERS: Chairperson, I move without notice:
That the House -
(1) notes -
a) the action of police and traffic officials who are conscientiously executing their duties when it comes to people who are transgressing the road traffic rules of South Africa and supports and welcomes this;
b) that the action of Warrant Officer Jannie Odendaal and his colleague, whereby they pulled over the vehicle in which Ms Winnie Madikizela-Mandela and her bodyguard were travelling at a high speed, was a case of them merely carrying out their duty;
c) that the unacceptable behaviour of Ms Madikizela-Mandela at the time of the incident was objectionable and is evidence of a lack of respect for the law;
d) that the suspension of Warrant Officer Odendaal attests to political partiality in the Public Service in favour of well- known persons in the ANC;
e) that this intimidates our police officials into ignoring the transgressions by such well-known ANC persons if they want to keep their jobs; and
(2) further notes that the DA wants to express its solidarity with Warrant Officer Odendaal and wishes him well and every success with the proceedings and the course of action he has taken.]
Chairperson, I just wanted to draw to your attention that this motion has been raised and yet there are processes in the courts that are dealing with the matter. We can't be dealing with it here at all.
All right, we will check if it's sub judice and we will therefore strike the motion off the Minutes. But we will look at the sub judice part of it.
Is the motion agreed to?
HON MEMBERS: No!
In the light of the motion not being agreed to, it will therefore become a notice of motion.
