Chairperson, I hereby give notice, on behalf of Cope, that at the next sitting of the Council I shall move:
That the Council -
1) debates the estimated $100 million loss to be incurred jointly by airlines operating out of Africa, according to the International Air Transport Association, IATA;
2) debates the negative effects the tourism and transport industries have to deal with as a direct result of political unrest in certain African states; and
3) calls on government and regional leaders to act in unison and to find a solution to a problem that has already caused so much harm.
Chairperson, I hereby give notice, on behalf of Cope, that at the next sitting of the Council I shall move:
That the Council -
1) debates the fact that the ANC's policy of cadre deployment is causing havoc within the Department of Fisheries, which now shares a Minister with Agriculture and Forestry;
2) notes that since late 2010 the department has had no fewer than four "acting" deputy directors-general with no prior experience in fisheries management;
3) further notes that most of the senior critical posts are filled by individuals with no skill and/or experience and who are merely "acting" in the position; and
4) calls on government to address this issue with great urgency.
Chairperson, I hereby give notice, on behalf of Cope, that at the next sitting of the Council I shall move:
That the Council debates -
1) the quality of water pumps bought by the Pienaar community in Nelspruit two years ago;
2) the amount paid to buy the water pumps, which are currently blocked by mud and have left the community without water for days on end; and
3) the intervention by the Mbombela municipality to provide water to the half a million people of Pienaar.
Chairperson, I hereby give notice, on behalf of the DA, that at the next sitting of the Council I shall move:
That the Council -
1) notes that the Gauteng police arrested 40 pupils on Friday who were found partying during school hours in Soweto and Roodepoort at a house in Dobsonville; 2) further notes that police found used condoms, sealed and empty bottles of whisky, vodka, brandy and ciders and 25 highly intoxicated learners were found in this particular house;
3) notes that most of the pupils were aged between 14 and 16 years; and
4) is shocked at what is happening in our suburbs during school hours and asks for more discipline and control at our schools.
