Deputy Chairperson, I hereby move without notice:
That the Council -
1) notes that Saturday, 11 June 2011, marked the first anniversary of the historic Fifa World Cup, the first on African soil, when it was hosted in South Africa last year;
2) further notes that the hosting of this event has left a marked legacy of huge investment in infrastructure, telecommunications, security and logistics;
3) acknowledges that the hosting of the event also contributed towards football development and improved skills and capacity of our administrators, coaches and footballers, as was evident with the result of the recently concluded Professional Soccer League and the imminent qualification of South Africa for the 2012 African Nations Cup;
(4) further acknowledges that the hosting of the 2010 Fifa World Cup in South Africa laid the basis for the hosting of other major events such as the Olympics and Commonwealth Games; and
(5) takes this opportunity to once again thank Fifa, the people of South Africa, football administrators and the government for making this one of the most memorable events ever held on African soil.
Motion agreed to in accordance with section 65 of the Constitution.
