Deputy Chairperson, on behalf of Cope I hereby give notice that on the next sitting day of the Council I shall move:
That the Council -
1) notes that the Public Protector, Thuli Madonsela, has sharply rebuked state entities that fail to implement the remedial action she recommends;
(2) further notes that several state entities deliberately refused to abide by Madonsela's findings or said they would wait for court processes to end before acting;
(3) acknowledges that the Office of the Public Protector has been established to ensure accountability and to fight the scourge of corruption; and
(4) therefore calls upon the President to act harshly against any state entity which is clearly showing disrespect to the Office of the Public Protector.
Deputy Chairperson, on behalf of Cope I hereby give notice that on the next sitting day of the Council I shall move:
That the Council -
(1) debates the immediate suspension of Ms Gule, the chief of the Johannesburg emergency services - fire fighting - who has been placed on long sick leave with full monthly pay of R100 000, which is injustice towards the taxpayer; and (2) also asks for the urgent investigation into the allegations that senior members - directors - of her department received overtime pay of approximately R60 000 to R80 000 during the Fifa World Cup.
Deputy Chairperson, on behalf of Cope I hereby give notice that on the next sitting day of the Council I shall move:
That the Council -
(1) notes the Presidency's ballooning budget, amounting to R929 million;
(2) further notes that government is consuming a great deal of the resources that ought to be going to the people;
(3) acknowledges the lack of bold decision-making and political will by government to deal with taxpayers' money; and
(4) recognises the need for parliamentary oversight within the Presidency in order to promote accountability and transparency.
Chairperson, I would like you to give a ruling - not necessarily now, but in the next sitting - on whether this House can debate issues around the Presidency, particularly its Budget Vote, as we are not even seized with that in our House.
