Madam Deputy Speaker, despite lame attempts to distance itself from reckless and inflammatory utterances by the youth league, the ruling party patently lacks the political will - or is it political courage? - to openly repudiate dangerous and unconstitutional behaviour. The deafening silence of the president of the ANC has fuelled and entrenched perceptions that Mr Malema is, in fact, talking on behalf of the ANC. Or is the youth leader in fact being supported covertly to engineer a bail out for mining tycoons who seek to be relieved of unprofitable mining assets at the taxpayer's expense?
Propagating unconstitutional land grabs is a serious matter that will not only threaten food security, but also destroy many thousands of job opportunities. Who would invest in a country where you can buy something today, but tomorrow it is grabbed from you?
Redressing past imbalances goes beyond rhetoric and demands. It also requires effective and efficient state administration to manage and finalise transactions that have been concluded in respect of land restitution.
It is no secret that nationalising any branch of commerce or industry, or even talking about it, is suicidal in a global economic environment. No government anywhere can run commercially competitive enterprises. [Time expired.]
