Deputy Speaker and hon Deputy President, I move without notice:
That the House -
1) notes that 18 July was adopted by the United Nations' General Assembly as Nelson Mandela Day, when people across the world will spend 67 minutes in honour of Madiba's service to humanity;
2) further notes that Mandela Day is an annual celebration of Nelson Mandela's life and a global call to action, for people to recognise their individual power to make an imprint and change the world around them;
3) believes that positive change begins with small actions and as each person acts, they fuel momentum toward positive change, raising awareness and expanding the reach of Mr Mandela's values - fighting injustice, helping people in need and practising reconciliation; and
4) calls on all South Africans, civil society organisations and citizens of the world to support the Mandela Day initiative by doing good in their communities.
Agreed to.
