Chairperson, I hereby move without notice:
That the Council -
1) notes that South Africa will attend its first meeting as a member of Brazil, Russia, India and China, commonly known as Bric or the "Big Four", during April 2011, following South Africa's rising image abroad as an influential emerging economy; (2) further notes that the Bric bloc symbolises a shift in global economic power away from the developed G7 economies towards the developing world; and
(3) acknowledges that the invitation for South Africa to form part of what will now become Brics is the result of our country's positive economic outlook and significant rise in international perceptions of South Africa in that an international poll regards South Africa as having a positive influence in global politics, inter alia because of its successful hosting of the 2010 Soccer World Cup and in particular the political role that South Africa plays on the African continent.
Motion agreed to in accordance with section 65 of the Constitution.
