Some patients and doctors still have a subconscious notion of "no test, no trouble". * The fear of being confronted by a terminal illness was a serious issue and living in denial was making some sense to some people. * Some patients had the notion that a positive HIV result will make them second class patients. * The fear of social rejection and financial hardship was also in existence.
