Thank you Deputy Chair, I hereby move without notice:
That the Council -
1) notes that our nation joined millions of people across the world in observing Earth Hour, which took place on Saturday, 26 March 2011; 2) further notes that Earth Hour is the largest mass participation environmental event in the world where people all over the world turn off their lights for one hour in a symbolic gesture to pledge their commitment to combating climate change;
3) also notes that this year's Earth Hour was symbolic for South Africa because our nation will once again be in the global spotlight as host of the crucial COP 17 climate change conference in Durban in December; and
4) takes this opportunity to congratulate everyone who took part in the event and encourages everyone in South Africa to take a stand against climate change as it affects all of us, our country and our planet.
Motion agreed to in accordance with section 65 of the Constitution.
