Madam Deputy Speaker, I move without notice:
That the House -
1) notes the tragic passing of former Springbok rugby player Solomzi "Solly" Tyibilika on Sunday, 13 November 2011;
2) further notes that Tyibilika, who was born in Port Elizabeth and first played rugby at Loyiso High School in the Zwide Township, made his professional debut for Griquas in 2001 before moving on to make 158 first-class appearances for the Sharks, Lions and Border;
3) recognises that he made his test debut in 2004 against Scotland in Edinburgh, earning the distinction of scoring a try on his first appearance;
4) further recognises that he played in eight tests in total, scoring three tries, the last of them against New Zealand in Pretoria in 2006;
5) acknowledges that Tyibilika, an inspiration to many young aspiring rugby players, returned to his native Eastern Cape in 2010 to represent Border and to further the game of rugby within local communities;
6) further acknowledges that Tyibilika's career is a shining example of how the combination of talent, opportunity and hard work will ultimately lead to success; and
7) extends its condolences to his family in this time of mourning.
Agreed to.
