Wide-Scale Corruption Unearthed In Eastern Cape Department Of Health (Draft Resolution)

  • ← Congratulations To Kwazulu-Natal On Hosting Successful Provincial Conference (Draft Resolution)
  • Closure Of Schools By School Governing Bodies In Eastern Cape (Draft Resolution) →
  • Mr S S Mazosiwe 15 May 2012 hansard

    Chairperson, I hereby move without notice:

    That the Council: -

    1) notes the report on a preliminary probe by the Special Investigating Unit, which has unearthed wide-scale corruption amounting to R200 million within the Eastern Cape department of health;

    2) further notes that the department has a long history of fraud and profiteering, ghost workers and irregular procurements, tendencies that explain the disappearance of the bulk of the R800 million that has vanished from its coffers;

    3) condemns this unbecoming behaviour of some of our public servants, which continues to undermine our government programme of improving the lives of our people, who fill their pockets and feed their bellies with funds intended to give our people a better life and effective services; and

    4) takes this opportunity to make a clarion call to all our people, particularly to dedicated and selfless public servants, to take up the national task to wage a war against corruption in all its forms and guises in our government and ensure that those who continue to dip their hands into the public till are made to face the full might of the law.

    Motion agreed to in accordance with section 65 of the Constitution.
